As Regional Manager for Stirling, Perthshire and Fife, Vivienne Duncan has been imparting her knowledge of beautiful Scottish properties and countryside with Scottish Country Cottages for over a year.

What did you do before you became a Regional Manager?

Before joining Scottish Country Cottages, I organised tours and events for a whisky distillery here in Scotland. I have always worked in hospitality or tourism and at one point, I ran my own guesthouse – it's just something I love to do.

Why did the role of Regional Manager appeal to you?

Working for Scottish Country Cottages allows me to do all the things I really enjoy. And as it is part of the tourism and hospitality industry, it is perfect for me, I love meeting people, and helping them to explore this beautiful country. I work with all types of owners and properties, that’s what is really great about this job – no two are ever the same.

Can you describe some of the types of owners you work with and what kind of owners you are looking to recruit?

I deal with everyone from Lords and Ladies to farmers with properties as diverse as a Stone Bothy to a 5-star stately home – it’s what makes doing this job in Scotland so unique. There’s nothing better than when an owner comes to you with a property steeped in history or with a really interesting story to tell.

What would your owners say about you?

Just like any Regional Manager working for Scottish Country Cottages, I’d like to think my owners find me friendly, helpful and informative. But it’s what I put into the rest of the process that I hope makes a real difference – I always try to go that extra mile - whether that’s advice on the best locations for those thinking of buying a property or, for existing owners, helpful hints and tips to enhance their property in ways that increase occupancy rates.

We have another 53 Regional Managers, just as dedicated as Sherilee, right across the UK.

Do you think you play an important part in increasing a property’s occupancy?

On the subject of styling a property, obviously when dealing with such characterful homes you have to remain sympathetic to the heritage and personality both inside and out. But, through my knowledge of VisitScotland criteria and guests’ own exacting standards, I’ve helped owners bring out the ‘wow’ factor. Guests nowadays want their holiday property to be better than their own home. They expect the latest and best technology such as high-speed Wi-Fi and satellite television. Thoughtful touches that make your guests feel comfortable in the holiday home makes all the difference.

For any potential owners what’s the value of them having access to a Regional Manager like you?

Being a Regional Manager really comes down to being able to offer full support and advice backed up by expert knowledge of properties and the surrounding area. You have to know the things that will make a real difference to owners.
