Although imperceptible to some, the seasoned holidaymaker and historic architecture enthusiast among you will notice that there’s more to this property than meets the eye. Situated in the heart of South Lanarkshire with its characterful stone exterior, Beech Cottage appears to be a contemporary take on the traditional Scottish cottage. In actual fact, the property was converted from a traditional farmstead many years ago, and although much of the original structure is well hidden, there’s still a historic air to the property that’s complemented by period furniture.Set on oak flooring with bright colours and a cracking wood burner, the living room makes for a fantastic spot to lounge about with the family watching TV or playing games, whilst the dining area features a beautiful wooden table and chairs, with French doors flooding the room with natural light from outside. The kitchen has a more farmhouse quality with tiled floor and granite worktops. It’s also well equipped with a range of appliances to take the effort out of cooking. The bedrooms flaunt soft beds and fluffy pillows, and there’s a good sized bath with your name on it for having an evening’s soak. The cottage’s real treasure is its location – set on the Douglas Estate, 33000 acres of lush open pastureland stretches out in all directions, and its elevated position presents captivating rustic views over the grounds. And as Beech Cottage is set around a courtyard along with two other properties, the site can comfortably accommodate larger parties of up to 16 guests. Shooting, stalking, bicycle hire and fishing are all available on site (at cost), and avid walkers won’t be disappointed with woodland walks, Scotland’s coast-to-coast long distance walk and the Southern Upland Way running close by.The town of Biggar plays host to the famous Hogmanay bonfire and street party in December, a tradition that stretches back to pagan times using fire to keep evil at bay in the coming New Year. There is also a wealth of independently run shops, pubs and eateries, museums, boating and a Victorian-style puppet theatre in the town, whilst Edinburgh, Scotland’s colourful capital, is but a short drive away.
Spacious living room with wood-burning stove, oak floor and French doors. Large well-equipped kitchen with tiled floor and seating area with wooden floor. Three double bedrooms, two with 6ft zip & link beds, 1 with super kingsize bed; one with TV and fully tiled en-suite shower room and toilet. Fully tiled bathroom with separate shower cubicle and toilet. Separate toilet with tiled floor.
