Set back from the narrow ledge that Crovie village was built along, back in the 18th century, 26 Crovie is in fact a relatively new build cottage (2012). However you wouldn’t guess that by looking at it because it has been tastefully designed and built to compliment its surroundings. Situated alongside a gentle stream that runs into the bay, number 26 has an unrivalled view of the village, a characterful red telephone box, and of course the pier and the sea.

There’s history everywhere you look in Crovie. It’s a remarkable and unique place and one of the few villages in the UK that is inaccessible to vehicles. Now that may be off-putting to some, but in fact it gives the place a magical, old fashioned feel, especially when you’re transporting your bags in a wheelbarrow from the car along the seafront footpath to the cottage. Parking is only a couple of hundred yards away, either in the car park on the sea front or at a designated car park at the top of the hill. Once you see Number 26 , you won’t want to leave the cottage the entire week; you’ll want to be marooned here and simply sit beside the wood burner gazing out across the pier to the open sea. It’s a moving, spiritual place and you’ll most likely book your next stay soon after arriving.

If you manage to motivate yourself to leave the luxury of 26 Crovie during your stay, there’s lots to see and visit nearby; Gardenstown is a short walk away along a footpath around the cliff. There is a small shop, cafés, and a bar/restaurant, so it’s convenient for evening meals out. In the other direction, you can walk over to the RSPB reserve at Troup Head, and watch the gannet colony, razorbills, guillemots and puffins. Pop into the car and a short drive to the east you’ll reach Pennan. Now Crovie will give you Local Hero vibes, but it is the neighbouring village Pennan that was used as the fictional Ferness. The red telephone box is there for a photo! Banff is the local town and is 10 miles away, boasting two brilliant golf courses and many places to eat, drink and shop. Further afield there are quaint coastal villages, big sandy beaches, distilleries and, of course, the Cairngorms are not far away at all. Beach 50 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
