Immaculately presented and situated in a charming fishing village, this holiday property has plenty of history and enjoys a cosy wood-burning stove.

This cosy little ground-floor cottage apartment is a vision of holiday accommodation for two by the sea.

The property’s bright, traditional façade looks out onto a narrow backstreet, beautifully in keeping with its setting. Once you’ve entered the cottage, you’re sure to be taken aback: streaks of flair and elegance run freely through this place that one might not expect in such a traditional seaside locale. The living room is a snazzy little setup - soft leather sofas huddle round a wood burner, backed by a striking indoor feature wall. Once you’ve settled in, thrown another log on the fire and made yourselves at home, you’ll begin to appreciate the carefree pleasures of doing nothing at all in a day.

Yet there’s a storied history behind Walkers Neuk that’s well hidden – this 18th century cottage used to be home to the local village blacksmith, who would fashion horseshoes for the horses that were worked at the old gasworks just a short distance away. Furthermore, you can still see a section of workshop chimneys jutting out from one of the walls in the garden (the workshops were owned by Balmerino Monks that owned the plot of land since 1221).

Today, the property is festooned in fine curio (in particular a 1930s model racing car and a beautifully carved sailing boat in the bedroom), and the shared enclosed garden to the rear lends this property to dog owners, and the upper section overlooks the Firth of Forth. After a light breakfast in bed, the lane on which the property sits leads out onto the seafront after about 50 yards. Best appreciated by way of leisurely stroll with an ice cream in hand, Anstruther is such a pleasant little village, tightly packed with bright and colourful houses facing the harbour. You can watch the sails flap in the wind, as the scenery changes from twinkling sunlight on the water to a softer tone in the shade. The harbour is alive with the village’s resident fishing fleet, bringing in their fresh catches before drifting off into the distance once more. Pay a visit to the local gallery, fish and chip shop or pub, before planning what to do the following day.

If you’re looking for an escape from the exhausting 9-5 grind with your other half, then look no further.
